Do you need to deposit 5,000 USD for the Paraguayan residency permit?

No, there is no deposit during the temporary residency process. The cause of the misunderstanding is that under the previous legislation, applicants could prove their sufficiency with the bank deposit for the permanent residency permit. Now, during the first step, obtaining the temporary residency permit for two years, you do not have to prove your solvency. However, you must declare how you can prove your solvency during the permanent residency process. You have the following options to declare:

  • You have a university degree
  • You have money (you must deposit it using this option!)
  • You have a pension

After the temporary period, you can extend this residency for another two years or apply for permanent residency. Then, you must show your degree or deposit more or less 5,000 USD in the National (Fomenta) Bank or show your pension paper.

What documents do you need for the Paraguay residency in 2024?

This regulation remained the same:

  • birth certificate (Apostilled)
  • clean police certificate (Apostilled) (Children from 13 years will need it!)
  • certificate of marriage or divorce, if applies (apostilled)
  • If your current citizenship is different from the nationality on your birth certificate, we will need your new certificate of citizenship or naturalisation.

Several additional documents are necessary, such as Interpol or National Police clearance, which we will obtain for you in Paraguay.

How long does it take to become a Paraguayan resident in 2024?

Please note that more than the residence permit is required. The most important document (your goal) is the Paraguayan Identity Card, the so-called cédula with the Unique Identification Number or CI. So, first, you need to become a resident and then apply for the ID card.

The residency process should take only three months. However, they can issue your permit in one to seven months. We can ask for a faster process if you are in a hurry. The good news is that if Migrations accepted your application, the success rate would be almost 100% if you did not lie about your application.

When we submit your application, Migrations will issue the so-called “yellow paper,” which is a “temporary-temporary” residency. You can use this document to stay in the country, leave, or enter until you receive your residence permit. Yes, you don’t have to stay or leave the country during your process; it is up to you.

Do you need a visa to apply for Paraguayan residency in 2024?

Yes!

All applicants, even from visa-exempt countries, must obtain a qualifying visa to qualify for residency, except for the citizens of the Mercosur Member States.

Where can you get your visa:

  • at a Paraguayan Embassy
  • at the airport (it is challenging nowadays)
  • at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

How can you become a permanent resident of Paraguay instead of undergoing a temporary residency period?
